NCHS Announcement

The National Chinese Honor Society (NCHS), sponsored by CLASS, would like to announce starting March 1, 2014, the price for NCHS membership certificates will increase from the current price of $3 per certificate to $4. This is due to the recent rise in the cost of postage and certificate redesign. 2014 CLASS Sessions at ACTFL Call for Proposal

Dear Fellow CLASS Chinese Teachers,

Happy New Year! Now that the new year is here, the fast approaching 2014 ACTFL proposal submission deadline is Friday. Jan. 17, 2014, 5PM EST; no late submissions will be accepted. The 2014 ACTFL Convention will be held in San Antonio, Texas, November 21st - 23rd, 2014, and the theme of the Convention will be "Reaching Global Competence." There are four focus areas for submitting proposals: Planning for the Learner, Learning and Teaching, Assessment, and Collaboration. CLASS will have a minimum of 42 sessions at the ACTFL Convention, a three-fold increase from last year! This is a great opportunity for you to submit proposals to share your best practices with a wide and diverse audience, and also showcases your success stories in teaching and promoting student learning. We have posted information on how to write a successful ACTFL proposal shown below. If CLASS members need us to help review the proposal before submission, please send your draft to me (dalit6250@gmail.com) by Jan. 11, 2014, so that we can review and return it in time for your submission before the Jan. 17 deadline. Note: Even though you do not need to be an ACTFL or CLASS member to submit proposals, once your proposal is accepted, you will need to be a current ACTFL or CLASS member to present at the convention.

How to Write a Successful Proposal for ACTFL

Greetings! I am writing to encourage you to submit a proposal for the 2014 ACTFL Convention. Next year’s convention will be in San Antonio, Texas, November 21st - 23rd, 2014. The main theme of the ACTFL 2014 Convention will be "Reaching Global Competence." There are four focus areas for submitting proposals: Planning for the Learner, Learning and Teaching, Assessment, and Collaboration. Please see the attached Submission Guidelines for more detailed information. Nest year, CLASS will have a minimum of 42 sessions at the ACTFL Convention, a three-fold increase from this year! This will be a great opportunity for you to submit proposals to share your best practices with a wide and diverse audience, and I very much encourage you to do so. Submitting a proposal is a great part of professional development; not only does it help us reflect on our instructional practices, but it also showcases our success stories in teaching and promoting student learning. Note: Even though you do not need to be an ACTFL or CLASS member to submit proposals, once your proposal is accepted, you will need to be a CLASS member or an ACTFL member in good standing till Nov. 30, 2014 to present at the convention. How to write a proposal for the ACTFL convention ? Please check the guideline below and take advantage of the helpful tips that our CLASS Executive Director Dr. Yu-Lan Lin put together to help our members write a successful proposal in mid December. The deadline to submit a proposal will be Jan 15, 2014.

Mission

Chinese Language Association of Secondary-Elementary Schools (CLASS) is a non-profit professional organization that represents all Chinese language educators at all levels from elementary to secondary schools.

CLASS advances and promotes the teaching and learning of Chinese language and culture at PreK-12 schools in the United States

 

Vision

1. To lead and promote the learning and teaching of Chinese in secondary and elementary schools in the United States; 

2. To encourage effective collaboration and articulation among elementary, secondary and college Chinese language instructors;

3. To offer professional development opportunities and training in current teaching practices and instructional technology;

4. To foster a national network for exchanging information, ideas, and curricular resources related to the teaching of Chinese language and culture.
